About

In March 1938, when A.K. Subsequently, on 26th August, 1939, the Bengal Governor, Sir John Woodhead laid the foundation stone of the college premises and in 1941 the construction of the college building was completed. Initially, there were nine disciplines and thirty-five Muslim girls on the rolls but by 1959 the roll strength of the college rose to seven hundred and fifty.

History was taught as a subject from the very beginning though only at the Intermediate and Pass levels. Mrs Bina Ghosh who taught history, was one of the first nine teachers of the college.
