Bengali department is one of the oldest departments of Lady Brabourne college. At present there are seven teachers in the department, seven of them having Ph. D degree. Honours in Bengali, Elective and Compulsory Bengali are taught. University of Calcutta has given permission to introduce Post Graduate Course from 2014. The history of the department reflects continuous academic progress through seven decades, many renowned teachers have served the department, a few of them are associated with teaching in the University. The result graph of Bengali department is very impressive. The students of this department always take part in the extracurricular, co-curricular activities and cultural programmes of the college with enthusiasm. This department has been taking the lead role in publishing the college magazine. Seminars are held regularly in the department. Many research articles of the teachers are published in referred journals. Some of the teacher's are associated with creative literary activities also. Three teachers is guiding research work (Ph. D) under Calcutta University.
